About Us
For more than 30 years, the Department of Informatics of Mendel University in Brno has been active in research, development, and innovation not only at the academic level, but also in the public sector. We have experience in national and international research and development projects, as well as contracted research with industrial partners. The results of our work also includes software applications developed for private companies, ministries, or local governments. We regularly publish in the fields of informatics, artificial intelligence, climate change, and migration. We are a department that supervises degree programs from the undergraduate to doctoral level.
We can bring expertise in the following areas to our collaboration:
- Software engineering activities
- application development (web, mobile, augmented reality, chatbots, …)
- user interface design, user experience testing
- data collection, management, and visualization
- research in machine learning, natural language processing, spatial data analysis, data warehousing, business intelligence, computer vision, also in specialized laboratories
- multidisciplinary collaboration in different areas such as economics, finance, marketing, smart agriculture, or migration based on the use of informatics as a means of solving complex problems
- education, training, and dissemination of research results – development of training programs and educational resources, promotion of project results, facilitation of knowledge transfer

GREENHOUSE 4.0
Control system of an energy-autonomous greenhouse operating on the basis of acoustic emission for growing crops in urban conditions.
Technical Agency of the Czech Republic, Trend 10 Greenhouse 4.0 The project is dealing with automation and management of sustainable cultivation within smart greenhouses. As part of the solution, technologies from the field of artificial intelligence (dataset creation, application of computer vision) are deployed in connection with the processing of signals from acoustic emission and hyperspectral cameras for determining events inside plants and identifying their condition (vegetation condition, identification of diseases). The focus is on greenhouse automation and sustainability.

WATERLINE Transforming
WATERLINE Transforming Advanced Water Skilling through the Creation of a Network of Extended-Reality Water Emulative Centres (Horizon Europe: European Excellence Initiative (EEI) , European Commission) & PoVE Water – Platform of Vocational Education (Erasmus+, 101055851) Our goal in these projects is to develop a metaverse-based solution for remote collaboration and education using spatial data. This enables experts around the world to work together and teach using AR and VR. We focus especially on long term sustainability of the applications and easy end-user maintenance.

Tools for the prevention of chronic non-infectious diseases:
Innovative procedures and products for the evaluation of children’s health and risks of obesity (PRECOR) (TAČR Sigma). The project proposal responds to current social and economic changes (covid-19, energy crisis, etc.), which indirectly affect the health and lifestyle of the population. The target population is families with children with an emphasis on the problem of obesity, and the application intention is to create effective prevention tools. Our task in this project is to create a mobile application that will support a healthy lifestyle, especially for children and youth, based on gamification elements.

Artificial intelligence for geolocation projects - chatbot
The aim of the project is to significantly shorten the process of geolocation projects using artificial intelligence. The process will be reduced from several months to several weeks by giving the user the ability to enter geolocation tasks independently. It will also open up the possibility of using geolocation analysis for ordinary users who are solving such problems, as the new ChatBot will be able to independently suggest scenarios, metrics and ways of handling given geolocation problems that most ordinary users have no experience with. The goal will be achieved by creating a working software prototype (ChatBot using artificial intelligence) – using a user-friendly interface to facilitate and accelerate the creation of map visualizations and map layers from the results of queries.

Analytical Platform 2.0. - a platform for automated portfolio management using learning systems
The output of the project will be software, a platform for automated portfolio management using learning systems. The primary customers of the product will be investment companies, product users portfolio managers, risk managers, data analysts, financial asset managers, traders. The secondary target group will be more experienced investors. The project is implemented by a consortium of two interconnected small businesses and two research organizations. The goal of the project is to create an expert system to support decision-making in the area of investments. The main output of the project will be Software as a Service, the digital platform www.analyticalplatform.com in version 2.0. The software will be built using machine learning, statistics, financial engineering and artificial intelligence. The project builds on previous long-term research and development and expands the functioning platform with innovative tools requested by clients. The supplied applications will contribute to the elimination of inequalities between capital market entities and facilitate access to financial management.

Interesting Projects
Smart Migration in the Czech Republic
Technological Agency of the Czech Republic (TL01000468) in cooperation with Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, South Moravian Region and others. The project had two main goals. The first is to provide effective support to migrants in the Czech Republic who find themselves in difficult personal situations through the new mobile and web applications „Smart Migration“. The second objective of the project was to analyze three key socio-demographic issues, the results of which can be used in the development of public policies and strategic materials

Smart university application "My MENDELU"
University research and development funds Development of smart infrastructure and mobile applications for students and university staff. The solution includes indoor maps, reservation of consultations with study assistants, connection to the public transport system, emergency communication tools and other functionalities.

Collaborative decision making in the metaverse
Horizon Europe WATERLINE and Erasmus+ PoVE Water Augmented and virtual reality are great tools for visualizing spatial data, which is inherently multidimensional. However, common applications are silos where data is embedded in code. We are creating a solution that allows the data to be easily manipulated as in a traditional GIS and opens up the possibility of remote collaboration on this data. For education or disaster management.
