The Department of Informatics Present
Study
In 2020, based on our experience in teaching Economic Informatics and Management Automation and Informatics, we have completely re-designed our study programmes and brought two completely new ones to our students: the academic programme Open Informatics and the professionally oriented programme IS/ICT Administration. Informatics linked to economics and management is still one of the key benefits of the degree, but the new concept of the degree programmes gives a much deeper scope for specialisation. Teaching naturally takes place in modernised IT classrooms and specialised laboratories are also available.
Science and Research
Students can join research teams and working groups to get involved in a range of projects. We specialize in mobile and web application development, data analysis, natural language processing, and application design. Or, for example, you can get involved in the management of university IT in cooperation with the MENDELU IT Department. A number of projects that have already been developed in cooperation with companies have reached a global scale, such as the first Czech mobile GIS – Gisella in cooperation with ENVIPARTNER, s.ro., or within the region as a mobile application for Brno-North. Our students have also implemented, for example, the Smart Migration mobile application used by people coming to the Czech Republic for work. The application is used by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and also by the Centre for Foreigners of the South Moravian Region.
The field of informatics is intertwined in all sectors, as evidenced by research in the field of migration policy, the creation of documents for ministries, a number of contract research with commercial companies, or the International Organization for Academic Ethics ENAI, whose founders come from among the staff of the Institute of Informatics. Details can be found on the individual research team pages.
